The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957). This British-American film is based on the same name novel by French writer Pierre Boulle. Widely considered one of the greatest films of all times won seven Academy Awards, three Golden Globe Awards and three BAFTAs. It was directed by David Lean.

Dracula (1958). The first in the series of horror films inspired by same name novel by Bram Stoker is a horror movie classic. It was directed by Terence Fisher and starred by Sir Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing and Michael Gough. In order to avoid confusion with the 1931 Dracula film, it was titled Horror of Dracula in the United States.

Psycho (1960). Probably the most famous film by the most famous British director, Sir Alfred Hitchcock initially received mixed results due to the sexuality and violence involved. However, it was nominated for four Academy Awards and is traditionally ranked as one of the greatest films of all times.

Lawrence of Arabia (1962). The film that is based on the life of T. E. Lawrence in Arabia during the First World War was directed by David Lean. It was nominated for ten Academy Awards but it won seven. It also won four BAFTA Awards and five Golden Globe Awards.

Doctor Zhivago (1965). The epic romance drama film was also directed by David Lean and was inspired by the same name novel written by Boris Pasternak. It won five Academy Awards and is one of the highest grossing films of all times.

Monty Python’s Life of Brian (1979). Comedy, written, directed and stared by the Monty Python team is one of the most influential films in history. But on the British Film Institute (BFI) list of top 100 British films, it was ranked only 28th.

Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994). Romantic comedy starred by Hugh Grant and Andy MacDowell, and directed by Mike Newell was a major success. It was nominated for Academy Award for Best Picture but it did not won. The film, however, did win a number of prestigious awards including four BAFTAs, a Golden Globe Award and four Critic’s Circle Film Awards.
